Ribfest's a great place to visit with family and friends, featuring live music, a kids zone, and LOTS of good food!
It's a fun, weekend-long event that helps raise funds for important local and international projects.
This year it's being organized and co-hosted by the Strathcona Sunrise and Comox Valley Rotary Clubs.
Learn more about the types of projects these clubs support by scrolling to the bottom of this page!

Here's an overview of the kinds of things volunteers with the Green Team help out with.  More detailed info appears below!

1.  Share information with guests and food vendors about how to separate their "garbage" so it can be deposited in the right place.
We provide containers for materials that are:
             - compostable          - recyclable
             - returnable               - garbage

2.  Clear and clean tables in the covered dining areas, tidy up the chairs and pick up things that might have fallen off the tables or been dropped on the ground.  Make sure the hand-wash stations don't run out of paper towel - it's recyclable, too!

.....the nitty-gritty details & timing of the shifts!
When to arrive, what to bring, who can help, and what do you need to tell people about "what goes where"?
Plan to arrive 10 minutes before your shift starts.   Enter through the main entrance and let the greeters know you've come to help out The Green Team.  They'll point you in the right direction!   Make sure to bring along a container for drinking water and maybe a snack.  We'll have water available, but would rather refill containers than pass out plastic water bottles.  There'll be pop-up tents and chairs available at each collection station, so during your shift, you'll be in the shade - not out in the sun.  Bringing along a sun hat's a good idea, too!

If you're helping out at the Collection Stations, one of the volunteer coordinators will accompany you to the station you'll be at and will provide a brief orientation that will make sure you know   "what-goes-where."   We'll have wasp traps on site to help protect you from wasps.

Everyone who shows up at Ribfest LOVES that we've encouraged kids to participate as well!  We suggest that for kids under 10, a parent, relative or older friend be there with them during the shift.  Ideally we like to have two people at each of the stations, so if there's someone you'd enjoy spending a little time with, invite them to come along!

One or two members of our volunteer team visit the collection stations regularly to move the compostables and other waste materials to large storage containers located onsite.  You won't miss them!  James and Chris have been doing this important work for several years, and this year they'll be joined by new helpers, including Cameron!

For people helping to Clear & Clean Tables and tidy up the dining area, we provide disposable latex gloves, buckets of water, biodegradable cleaning solutions and scrub brushes.  And we've got some of those neat trash pickers/grabber tools to pick things up off the ground.  You'll also need to make sure there's a supply of paper towels at the two hand-wash stations onsite - they're compostable, too!

Volunteers all receive a $10 voucher for each shift they complete!
You can use them for snacks, beverages or a meal at all 5 Ribbers' stands.  They offer several food options besides
bbq ribs & chicken, including cornbread, coleslaw and baked beans - and there are also other food vendors onsite!
